Demons and Wizards

This band is masterminded by two geniuses of metal and rock, Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth and Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian.

Their music is truly monumental. No holds barred powerful metal of epic proportions. But by epic, I don’t necessarily mean 10 minute long operas with marathon guitar solos. If you are a fan of any of the rock and metal legends Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica or even Dio, you will have plenty of time for these guys.

Check out some of the tracks from “Touched by the Crimson King”, several of which are based on the Dark Tower series by Stephen King and also has a song about Dorian from “The Portrait of Dorian Grey” that will knock your knitting needles right out of your hands and into your cake. Then when you’ve recovered from that bombshell, move on to their first album, Demons and Wizards. Both are incredible for sightly different reasons.

This is enjoyed the most played seriously loud. Although some of the guitar work on the slower tracks will have serious musicians enchanted, the heavier licks and lead breaks will have everyone losing brain cells in violent head-banging joy. The vocals are akin in many ways to those of Led Zeppelin at times and Queen at others. The full choir from blind guardian take part and give an extra ambience where needed.

In short this is awesome stuff. I think each album should be used as the soundtrack for some awesome movie. And they would be the best movies ever.
